Trans fat or trans fats are also called trans fatty acids. Trans fats are a particular type of unsaturated fatty acids. In Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011 trans fat is defined as "fatty acids with at least one non-conjugated (namely interrupted by at least one methylene group) carbon-carbon double bond in the trans configuration." Some trans fats are produced industrially. The primary dietary source of industrial trans fats is partially hydrogenated oils. Partially hydrogenated oils generally contain saturated and unsaturated fats, among them trans fats in variable proportions (with trans fats ranging from a few up to more than 50%), according to the production technology used. Trans fats can also be naturally present in food products derived from ruminant animals such as dairy products or meat from cattle, sheep or goat.

On 24 April 2019, the Commission adopted a Commission Regulation amending Annex III to Regulation (EC) No 1925/2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council as regards trans fat, other than trans fat naturally occurring in fat of animal origin.

The Joint Research Centre has provided input to this report through a series of studies on the presence of trans fats in the foods and diets of the EU population, as well as on the possible impacts of different policy options aiming to reduce the trans fats intake in the EU. The report Trans fatty acids in Europe: where do we stand?' identifies and summarises the available data on the content of TFA in foods and on dietary intake of TFA intake in Europe.

The Queer and Trans Graduate Student Union (QTGSU) was founded in spring 2018 in response to a need for a queer and trans organization specifically tailored to graduate students. The QTGSU is a volunteer-run organization that provides community, mentorship, advocacy, and professional development opportunities for LGTBQIA+ graduate students at UCSB. We advocate for the rights and well-being of LGBTQIA+ identified students on campus and work to foster ties with the greater Santa Barbara community. We work closely with the Resource Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity [RCSGD] at UCSB.

Depending on the applicable law, regulation, or executive order involved, failure to comply with these restrictions may result in civil as well as criminal penalties. Willful violations carry criminal penalties with fines ranging from $50,00013 to $10,000,00014 as well as imprisonment ranging from 515 , 1016 to 3017 years, or even life.18 Civil penalties range from $10,000 to $1,000,000, or twice the amount of each underlying transaction per violation.19

Similarly, Trans Union argues that it should not be liable under the FCRA because the responsibility for USA PATRIOT Act compliance falls on potential creditors and not credit reporting agencies. We are well aware that anyone involved in financial transactions has significant responsibilities under the USA PATRIOT Act, as noted above. However, nothing in the USA PATRIOT Act suggests that Congress intended the obligations arising under that Act to immunize credit reporting agencies from duties they would otherwise have under the FCRA. Once Cortez disputed the accuracy of the information in Trans Union's credit report, Trans Union was obligated to reinvestigate that information. The car dealer's responsibilities under the USA PATRIOT Act are simply irrelevant to Trans Union's duty under the FCRA; the district court recognized that when it denied Trans Union's motion for judgment as a matter of law.
